We want to keep it simple, so here are three quick and easy explanations of FUP - you choose which one you prefer!
Let Will explain the FUP to you in just two minutes:
For a visual presentation… we’ve bubbled it up:
NB: If our network is under considerable load, all services (capped and uncapped) could be impacted and potentially experience slower speeds, regardless of your FUP status.
The Fair Usage Policy (FUP) is our super simple way of protecting the integrity of the Webafrica network. As with all acceptable use policies, if you use more than a certain, predetermined ‘fair’ amount of data in a given timeframe, your line speed could slow down during peak times, in order to allow other users to access the network fairly.
Each line speed has its own FUP threshold, and because we don’t all have the same data needs, we offer distinct packages with different thresholds on the same line speed.
If you are an Openserve (Telkom) customer on an ADSL Uncapped package or the 10 Mbps Uncapped Fibre package, then the FUP threshold will apply to you.
If we supply you through any of our other Fibre infrastructure providers then you automatically fall into the “NO FUP” category and will not be affected by a FUP threshold.
We will send you notifications via email, when you reach 70%, 80%, 90% and 100% of your FUP threshold. We will also send an SMS when you reach 90% and 100% of your threshold.
You can choose via the email to upgrade or to continue on your current FUPPED package. If you remain over the FUP threshold, you will receive these notifications every ten days. You may opt out of these notifications in your Internet Usage Tracker if you no longer want to receive them.
Our current package categories on Openserve are Uncapped and Uncapped Premium.
If you are connected via the Openserve network on these packages will apply to you and you will have to choose one when signing up for your product. If you are connected through any of our other Fibre infrastructure providers you will automatically fall into the Uncapped Pro category.
We currently offer two uncapped categories for our 10 Mbps Openserve package - Uncapped and Uncapped Premium. The standard 10 Mbps Uncapped package carries a FUP threshold of 150GB. The 10 Mbps Uncapped Premium package carries no FUP. All other Openserve packages (20 Mbps and above) have no FUP applied.
Please Note: We only apply FUP on our 10 Mbps Uncapped Fibre package on the Openserve infrastructure. No other Fibre providers have a FUP threshold.
Good to Know: If you are on the 10 Mbps Uncapped package which carries a FUP, your usage between midnight and 06:00 am every day does not affect your rolling FUP threshold. So, if you are planning downloads, make sure you schedule them for these times so they won’t impact your FUP status.
Uncapped Package Speed | Uncapped | Uncapped Premium |

10Mbps | 100 GB | Unlimited |
20Mbps | 200GB | Unlimited |
40Mbps | 250GB | Unlimited |

Good to Know:
If you are on one of our packages which carries a FUP, your usage between midnight and 06:00 am every day does not affect your rolling FUP threshold. So, if you are planning downloads make sure you schedule them for these times, and they won't have an impact on your FUP status.
The FUP thresholds:
All thresholds are based on data consumption over a 30 day rolling window. This means that your data consumption is NOT calculated from the first of the month to the end of the month. Your data consumption is based on the last 30 days of usage, regardless of the date. For example, if today is the 15th of June, your data consumption is measured from 30 days prior to this day, so from the 15th of May, and not from the 1st of June. This 30 day window "rolls" forwards every day. It is a 30 day rolling window.
